One day of Spring Break down, four to go. Today the kids are begging to go to Chuck E Cheese (to be fair, the little guy ‘earned’ a trip for good behavior about 4 months ago and we have yet to fulfill our end of the bargain {to be fair, I’m kind of failing on the consistent discipline/reward system- there goes my mom of the year award}) and maybe hit up a park. Anyone want to meet us at Chuck E Cheese?? We are only going to play games…. pizza is NOT part of the deal.
{insert witty transition to St. Patrick’s Day foods} {or not – day one of staycation spring break wore me out}
Here are some healthy and naturally green smoothie recipes for St. Patrick’s Day. These are really year-round smoothies, as we can all use more greens in our daily diet.
Family Friendly Creamy Mojito Smoothie
(these are my son’s very favorite smoothies and the only way I can get him to consume avocado)
My favorite ‘starter’ green smoothie recipe for skeptics:
1 cup spinach, 1 frozen banana, 1 glob peanut butter, non-dairy milk and ice.

Happy Spring Break to all the Texan readers! Who else out there is spring break-ing?

I’m determined to try making a Shamrock Shake this year. I told my husband to watch for one in the upcoming days!
Cute round-up of green smoothies!
I think mint makes most things taste more festive and special. Except maybe hummus.
we’re not spring-breaking yet, and i’ve homeschooled my 3 precious creatures for the last 11 years, so there is no shock when 8 AM rolls around and they are STILL here, day after day after day!
i printed out your smoothies and they can choose their favorite…i love waking up and having someone else, like you, already have planned the breakfast options! It makes me look real good—maybe even mother-of-the-year material! HA! They have all finally recently converted to sprouted/high/fiber bread/toast with raw almond butter sprinkled with chia, sprouted sunflower and pumpkin seeds, and they can make it all on their own…then they make their favorite smoothies, all on their own…be patient, and you will have your own “all on their own” days soon enough, and spring break days won’t be so exhausting! chuck e cheese has always frightened me!
but THEIR spring break is a good time to go! savor something about them today! like their smiles of delight (as your headache grows) among the bells, whistles, and chaos of chuck e cheese! thanks again for the recipe options!
Hats off to you – homeschooling 3 for 11 years? Mother of the decade.
Chuck E Cheese was surprisingly fun. We got there by 9:30 and had the place practically to ourselves for the first hour. By 11 the crowds and noise were picking up and we were out of there by 11:30 with a handful of trinkets purchased with the kid’s hard earned tickets. Okay, and some of mine. I can’t pass up a skee-ball machine.
My girl has only recently been able to make herself (and her brother) a bowl of cereal or piece of toast and it’s been wonderful. I’m not trusting her with the blender yet, but it will be a nice day that she can make her own (and maybe my…..) smoothies!
Thanks for the comment Gail!
I’m really hoping the avocado I have at home isn’t too far gone…I want that key lime smoothie!
