Three Ingredient Banana Almond Smoothie

3 Apr

You know all those recipes that call for costly ingredients that you can only find at Whole Foods?  Or those smoothie recipes that have 10 ingredients, which, honestly, kind of defeats the purpose of the usually simple smoothie?

This is not that recipe.

It is a sweet, creamy (yet vegan) and tasty smoothie that is a perfect post-workout drink.  It’s got potassium from the bananas and a myriad of healthy vitamins, minerals and plant fat from the almonds.

Three Ingredient Banana Almond Smoothie

Ingredients

  • 1 frozen banana
  • 2-4 Tbsp almond butter (to taste)
  • 1/2-3/4 cup cold water

Directions

Add all ingredients and blend until smooth.  Add more water if needed to get desired consistency.

Optional 4th, 5th, 6th (etc) ingredients:

  • spinach
  • dash of cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • dash of nutmeg

This recipe is also good if made to be really thick, served in a bowl and topped with granola.

My version is with a banana, chia seeds, chocolate almond milk and ice….yummy and very filling too!

love the simplicity :) Banana and almond butter smoothies have to be one of my favourites.

I think I’ll have to try it with water – normally I use almond milk which might make it too rich and is maybe why I’ve struggled with a similar combo in the past! Must test out! :)

Yum. I make something similar, but with a date or two blended in and occasionally a little bit of cocoa if I feel like something chocolatey is in order.

Why have I not tried this combo? I think I may have this for “dessert” tonight. Thanks! :-)

So simple, yet so delicious. Why haven’t I ever thought to use water in a smoothie instead of almond/coconut milk? I do not know. But now I shall.
