Greenling Week Two

10 Apr

I got my second Greenling delivery this week.  Here is how I’ve used this week’s produce.

  • Green Chard – Juiced
  • Spring Onions – Used in cooking various meals this week.
  • Strawberries – Washed and ate within a day. We really like strawberries.
  • Pea Shoots – Eaten in salads and juiced.
  • Red Leaf Lettuce – Salad and juiced.
  • White Beets – Roasted and snacked on.
  • Heirloom Garlic – Used all of it in a Pot Pie recipe.
  • Easter Egg Radishes – Snacked on.
  • Turnip Greens – TBD (any suggestions?)

This was Greenling’s “Local Box,” which is most like a CSA in that you get what is freshest that week.  For next week I am going back to the ‘pick your own combo’ style box.

Michelle, blanch the turnip greens in salted water for no more than 3 minutes, then once cooled, you can season them any way you want. I used rice wine vinegar, a little sesame seed oil, some finely shredded sushi rice seasoning (has seaweed mostly) and sesame seeds scattered on top for asian greens. Yummy! Works great for beet greens too.

I’m trying to convince the husband we need to join a CSA, he’s not convinced yet…

Is green chard strong tasting in juice? I haven’t gotten very generous with juicing – mainly romaine for greens – I didn’t get any juice out of spinach but have heard that is a good one…

What kind of juicer do you use? Mine doesn’t seem to juice my greens very well. I have a Jack LaLane (sp?). I have been getting a ton of greens in our “happy box” and running out of ways to use them all!
